About
Friends From Far is made up of some folks who really love music.
Did I mention that we love music?
After years of sharing music with our friends and opening peoples eyes to new music, we figured it was time to broaden the spectrum and share it with you. Gone are the days of mix-tapes, burnt CD mixes, and trying to share our favorite tracks over Facebook or MSN/BBM status.
Our intent is to introduce you to something new, something old, or even something forgotten.
We believe that there is a genre, artist or piece of music that can match any possible mood that a person could experience. We also believe that once you have found something that you truly enjoy in music, that you must show your support of those who brought it into existence – the artists! Without them, it just doesn’t work.
If you are a musician, and you are looking to get your tracks out on the airwaves, drop us a line. We’d love to share what you have done with the world!
Thanks for reading. Stay tuned and enjoi!

Hey there! I’ve got a little treat for you from Varia, a free electrock-mashup-album very hipsterly called “Magic + Omega” that we’ve been working on for four years. It contains a 35 minute studio mix and 8 separate tracks that are not on the mix. The genres span everything from heavy / 80s rock, electro, techno, house, glitch / IDM, even country, with the underlying principle being to make good music out of other people’s not so good music. We take the best bits out of a song (usually not the chorus) and rework things with new sounds to a whole new composition, it’s not exactly your ordinary mashup. Do check it out, it’s all quality and you won’t be disappointed!
MP3s of our album are directly available here:

To make matters even more interesting, we created an automated YouTube mixing machine that plays videos atop our music. Not for slow machines and internet connections, and definitely not for the faint of the heart as it usually induces very giggle-worthy associations between things! It’s available right here in your browser: http://www.varia.tv/
We also DJ regularly in our homebase of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Starting on May 8th we’re doing a bi-weekly show consisting only of free and Bandcamp music in the coffeeshop Betty, TOO! at Reguliersdwarstraat 29.
Hope you like the music and what we’re doing! Any promotional help is really appreciated!
Best,
Juho Hietala & Jari Pitkänen
